Cut from a plain-weave linen in natural oat — the colour of unworked soil, of undyed thread, of a wall that has been washed the same shade for forty years — it carries nothing on its surface except the cloth itself. The weave is open enough to show the individual yarns, flecked with the natural variation of linen: a darker thread here, a slub there, the small imperfections that remind you this came from a plant, not a machine.
A self-toned piped edge in the same oat runs all four sides — the only concession to finishing, precise and clean, giving the cushion its shape without competing with anything.
Khaak means earth in Persian and Urdu. Not soil waiting to be planted. Earth as foundation — the ground everything else stands on, the colour everything else returns to. In a room full of embroidery and pattern and texture, Khaak is the breath between words. It does not compete. It completes.
